Very much alive and showing depth after 2 hrs of decanting (closed at first). Strong backbone; leans heavily to the leathery/cherry pit side of Chianti spectrum. Fruit is still there, but plays a second fiddle to the rustic-cum-refined nature of this wine. The age shows with a clear presence of underbrush/mushroom notes, but somehow they manage to remain in the shadows.
