Name:Brunello di Montalcino
Vintage:1993
Type:Red Wine
Varietal:Sangiovese
Producer:Caparzo

Impossible to call it a ’93. Alive and kicking on all fronts. Probably attempts ( successful, mind you) to save a mediocre vintage have altered its character somewhat, but overall a very enjoyable ready Brunello.

1995 Caparzo Vigna La Casa Brunello di Montalcino

Name:Vigna La Casa Brunello di Montalcino
Vintage:1995
Type:Red Wine
Varietal:Sangiovese
Producer:Caparzo
Region:Italy / Toscana / Montalcino

Again Caparzo surprises with its longevity. Full of life, vibrant, clean; somewhere around its peak time and hardly showing any negative sides of this age. Full of liquorice, some eucalyptus, excellent acidity. Very lovely and could easily take on another decade.

1994 Caparzo Ca del Pazzo

Name:Ca del Pazzo
Vintage:1994
Type:Red Wine
Varietal:Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon
Producer:Caparzo
Region:Italy / Toscana
Alcohol:n/a

Who would have thought that this Sangiovese/Cabernet Sauvignon blend would age so well. Even the 24 months of barrique therapy didn’t screw it up. None of the pop fruit. Instead, classy and composed; well groomed, but, not over-pampered. Savory is the line it hold very well. Quite mineral too, almost a touch-and-go between slightly sweet and salty. I had a bottle a year ago and it was dead. This one – bobbing along famously. A fantastic upside surprise from my stash…and at a mere €20 price tag.
